Useful information for the prospective International Students (Foreign Nationals / Overseas Citizen of India / Person Of Indian Origin)

Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is one of the pioneering institutions in this part of the world offering several programs in Basic Sciences, Marine Sciences, Engineering and Technology. CUSAT offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degree programs in all branches of Engineering and Science. Master’s and PhD programs are offered in Humanities and Law as well. Some of the special programs offered in CUSAT are B.Tech in Naval Architecture, B.Tech in Polymer Science and Technology, Master’s programs in Marine Biology, Industrial Fisheries, Oceanography, etc.

The Government of India has initiated several steps towards internationalization of higher education in India such as introduction of twinning program, joint programs, double degree program, etc. As a part of internationalization of higher education in CUSAT, it has been decided to accommodate international students in all programs up-to 15% of the sanctioned strength.

International students are exempted from the requirement of admission tests for the academic programs of the University. They can apply either on self-financing basis or through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) attached to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.


Direct Applications under self-financing scheme

The International students seeking admission at CUSAT are required to submit their application online, for the academic programs of the University, on payment of US$100/- by way of Demand Draft/Pay order/ any other instrument (which does not involve any collection charges on the part of the University) in favor of Registrar, CUSAT.

Applicants who have successfully registered online with CUSAT may forward an advance copy of the confirmation page along with the payment details and the documents listed below to the Director, Office of International Relations, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi – 682022, Kerala, India

The original confirmation page along with copies of certificates mentioned below shall be routed either through the Embassy of India in their respective country or through their respective Embassy in India.

  1. Curriculum vitae.
  2. Demand Draft or Pay Order that does not involve any collection charges from the part of CUSAT for US$100/- drawn in favour of Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam.
  3. Copies of mark lists / transcripts of the qualifying examinations undergone.
  4. Two copies of recent passport size photographs.
  5. Character certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
  6. Reference letters from two persons who have intimate knowledge of their academic capabilities.
  7. Copy of Passport.
  • Students from Nepal do not require a student visa for studying in India. But they should forward a copy of the Nepal citizenship card to the Embassy of India in Kathmandu for verification and for onward transmission to CUSAT.

    The international candidates who have secured admission at CUSAT have to produce an Equivalence Certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) within six months after joining the program. The necessary information including Application form for Equivalence Certificate can be had from https://aiu.ac.in/evaluation.php
